For students studying at the University of Vienna

The University of Vienna supports you in continuing your studies despite the war situation. We are aware that you are currently facing existential questions. We understand that your thoughts and attention are with your families and friends. We know that many students are currently not able to travel to Vienna from Ukraine and that the technical possibilities (participating online) are limited.

We would like to offer some support in this difficult situation.

Remission of the tuition fee for Ukrainian citizens

The University of Vienna remittes the tuition fee for summer semester 2023. The remission is automatic. In order to continue your studies, you must pay the Students' Union fee until 31 March 2023.

Ernst Mach Grant – Ukraine

This grant helps Ukrainian students who are already enrolled at an Austrian higher education institution to continue their studies. The scholarship sum is 715 euro per month with a duration of nine months (an extension up to 21 months is possible). Please find all information on the website of the OeAD.

Courses and exams

These rules apply on a temporary basis until 30.09.2023.

Write an e-mail from your u:account e-mail address to your teachers and describe your situation. You do not have to provide any evidence if you are in one of the following situations up to and including 30.09.2023:

  • You cannot participate in an on-site exam or course due to legal or factual travel restrictions: It will be assessed whether we can provide an alternative digital offer (e.g. exams in a digital format, substitute achievements, postponement of dates, different submission deadlines). We will jointly try to find a solution for you.

Write an e-mail from your u:account e-mail address to your SSC if you are in one of the following situations:

  • You have to de-register from courses/exercises that must take place on site (e.g. laboratory exercises) and want to participate in a replacement course (in a digital/mixed format).
  • You require help rescheduling your plan for the semester.

The directorates of studies, SSCs and your teachers are informed about this procedure and will support you.
